Strawberry Creek Fish Ladder

Strawberry Creek is a tributary of the Weber River in north-central Utah. The Weber River basin is home to a population of native Bonneville Cutthroat Trout; historically Strawberry Creek has provided spawning habitat for these fish. In the 1980s, Strawberry Creek was routed through a 380 foot long culvert under Interstate 84 about 8 miles east of the city of Ogden; this culvert has acted as a complete barrier to upstream fish passage and has cutoff Strawberry Creek from the larger river system.

OneFish designed and oversaw construction of a fish ladder to provide upstream passage through the culvert. The unique design used modular, metal sections that could be moved and installed in the culvert by volunteers, greatly reducing the cost of the project.

  • Vertical slot fish ladder

    • Integrated into existing concrete culvert with no impact on road or culvert operations

  • Project completed in 2017
